How Do I Know If My Phone Needs Professional Repair?

Not every phone problem needs a technician, and some issues get worse if you wait. Here's a clear breakdown of what needs immediate attention, what can wait a bit, and what you can probably handle yourself.
ACT NOW — Don't wait on these
- Swollen battery: A physical bump on the back of the phone is a lithium battery swelling. This is a fire risk. Stop using the phone, don't compress the back, and get it to a technician today.
- Water exposure: Every hour without treatment allows corrosion to spread. Power off, don't charge, contact a technician immediately.
- Screen with LCD bleed: Dark patches spreading from a crack mean the LCD underneath is failing. It will spread and become unrepairable if left.
- Phone won't charge at all: Could be the port, cable, or battery. All worsen if you keep trying to force charge.
GET IT REPAIRED SOON — These worsen with time
- Cracked screen with minor cracks but working touch — cracks grow, moisture enters, LCD underneath gets damaged
- Battery draining in 3–4 hours on normal use — affects every function of the phone
- Charging port loose or intermittent — will fail completely if left
- Camera not focusing or showing artifacts — often just the module, easy repair before it worsens
CAN USUALLY WAIT — These are annoying, not urgent
- Scratched back glass (cosmetic, no functional impact)
- Volume buttons stuck but phone works around them
- Software glitches — try a force restart and OS update first
- Single dead pixel in corner of screen that doesn't spread
